December Eve

The end of November the boys made a paper chain, with a {little} help, to count down the days until Christmas.
and on the last night before December we (the boys) put on our Santa hats, decorated the house, and got our chain ready for the countdown!
I'm not sure why Lane is shirtless...I'm guessing he got a little messy at supper
The little elves :)  (and no Kale has not lost his front teeth, I have no idea what he's doing in this picture to make it look like that!)

Thanksgiving tree

During the month of November the boys filled up "leaves" with things they are thankful for to put on our Thanksgiving tree.
the boys were pretty proud of their tree and did pretty good thinking of things to add to it

The finished tree after a little rearranging of the leaves to put them all on the tree :)

Trapping Season Begins

Trapping season started on a high note this year...a cold, rainy morning and Jason took both boys to check traps and they had a big ole daddy coon.
I love how excited the boys are to get to do things with their dad and how excited he is to share the experiences with them!

Other November pics

We found out we have a mice problem in the lean to and decided we needed something to help the situation.  Someone on facebook had some kittens they needed to give away at the same time (yay for fb!) so we got a couple of semi wild kittens and after a few days or weeks or being contained, fed, and talked to by our resident animal whisperers they were tamed down...almost too tame.  I had to run them off my front steps continously, but they proved they could do the job we got them for and the boys loved them so they were welcome by us.  2 or 3 days after Kale named them, Beth and Barb, one of them disappeared and a few days later the other one was gone too.  Later that week Jason saw what we think was the problem - an old tom cat.  We had never seen it before, but I guess he doesn't want kittens around here.  We will probably try again or maybe get some older cats who are a little tougher, but for now the glue traps are taking care of the mice.

Kale with one of the kittens
he said he could tell them apart and never hesitated to tell me who was who, I didn't believe him until one of them disappeared and he said it was his that was missing...I would think if he was just making it up he would have made Lane's be the one that disappeared!
 can't you feel the love?!?
I really thought Lane might have been the reason they went missing...like they ran because they couldn't handle all that love!
he would pick them up and carry them everywhere...this time by the neck....and surprisingly never got scratched

When we bought our house the previous owners left their daughter's playhouse.  It was super cute and even has a loft to sit in and read.  Unsure of how much use it would get and wanting to move it from the spot it was in Jason came up with the idea to convert it to a hunting blind for the boys (& him).  After some work they now have a large, well insulated, box blind to hunt in.  Kale got to go a couple of times this year and Jason used it several.  And I guess Lane will have to wait until fall 2013 to try it out :)
 with their hunting blind
Kale is pretty sure they can kill a turkey out of it this spring!

One rainy day when we were stuck inside the boys worked all day long building things.  I think they had been confined to their room at this point for "sawing" and "hammering" on furniture throughout the rest of the house.  They were just trying to fix it....definitely never a dull moment
Kale, the safe worker with his hard hat on

and wouldn't you know, Lane's just sat on the floor next to him :)

Deer Season

One of the highlights of the year comes every fall - Deer Season!  This year was no different as the boys were all pumped up to see what they would harvest.  Bow season didn't start off the greatest as the buck that Kale & Jason had named "Captain Hook" was taken on the neighboring property.  Kale was pretty upset and still talks about how someone else shot "his" deer :)  Later in bow season Jason killed a buck, not a wall hanger by any means, but one he was happy to get out of the herd.
The boys going with Jason to find his bow kill
Kale was very impressed and told people his dad had shot a monster!

Opening day of gun season the boys were ready to go with their guns and hunting vests on.  Kale even made sure to take his jump rope everywhere we went in case his daddy called and needed help dragging his big buck out of the woods.  (love that kid!)

of course I got a few silly ones

Ready to go hunting on their own....they played outside "shooting" the deer and other wild animals they "saw"

Kale hit one!
Kale all ready to go hunting with Jason
Lane super excited...not quite understanding he was about to be left behind!

Jason didn't have any luck when he took Kale, but a few nights later we got the call...
we hurried to meet up with Jason and go find the buck
and we were definitely not disappointed
 the boys were super excited

Kale took his jump rope and after "helping" pull the deer to the truck got a picture by himself
And little Laner with the wall hanger!  That's right, Jason is getting this one mounted and we can hardly wait to him back to add to trophy wall :)
